New Homes Plan for Stocksbridge Approved by Councillors

7 December 2011

Proposals for 140 new homes as part of a major regeneration master plan in a north Sheffield town have been approved by council planners.

The scheme for a former steelworks site in Stocksbridge has been unanimously approved by Sheffield City Council's West and North Area Planning Board with members welcoming the investment in the town.

The new homes are part of a major £46 million regeneration project being brought forward by South Yorkshire based Dransfield Properties Ltd working with Gallagher Developments. The developers are also working with Tata Speciality Steels to deliver a new warehouse and a state of the art test house facility as part of the steel town project.

The approval by the council's planners of the housing application is an important step forward in the overall scheme. Last month a revised application for the retail and commercial element of the scheme was also unanimously suppported by the authority.

As well as the new housing site the new development will also bring a  63,000 sq ft  Tesco store to Stocksbridge, the plans also include  further retail and office space. The regeneration project will transform an industrial site in the town and create new public rights of way and good links with the main Manchester Road.

Around 900 new jobs will be created by the development - it's hoped work can start early in 2013.

Mark Dransfield, Managing Director of Dransfield Properties Ltd said: "We are extremely pleased that the housing application for the Stocksbridge site has been approved. There is a great deal of support within the community for this investment in the town and we are now a step closer to getting on site to start work on this important regeneration scheme in the town."
