Marshall's Yard Lit Up and Ready for Christmas!

Marshall’s Yard is all lit up and ready for Christmas thanks to seven year old Eleanor Clarkson who pushed the plunger to launch the centre’s brand new festive lights on Friday.

Thousand of people attended the annual event and watched Eleanor, from Glentworth, switch on the lights including the fantastic seven metre high reindeer which is the centre piece of this year’s festive display.

The crowds were entertained by stars of the Gainsborough Panto as well as a fantastic festive Zumba demonstration from DW Sports. The whole event was hosted by John Marshall from Lincs FM.

Horse and carriage rides, glowing stilt walkers and even real reindeers all helped get the crowds in the Christmas spirit.

Eleanor was given the VIP treatment for the switch on after coming up with the fantastic name Orion in the Yard’s Name the Reindeer Competition, as well the chance to switch on the lights Eleanor also went home with a great festive hamper full of goodies.

Megan Porter aged 13 was the evening’s lucky winner of the luxury hamper from Marks & Spencer as well as shopping vouchers and a family ticket to watch Aladdin at the Trinity Arts Centre.

The evening was rounded off with a traditional festive performance by the Gainsborough Salvation Army at 7.00pm near the new reindeer feature.

Assistant Centre Manager at Marshalls’ Yard, Medi Parry, said: “We were absolutely delighted with this year’s Christmas Light Switch On Event and the number of people who turned out.

“We had really pushed the boat out this year to make Christmas at The Yard extra special and from the feedback we have so far - this was most definitely the case!

“We would also like to thank our VIP guest Eleanor Clarkson for switching on our new Christmas lights at the event this year after winning our competition and naming the reindeer for us. It looks fantastic and we have had so many lovely comments from shoppers about it.”
