28 September 2011

The board of the Swedish Bank Handelsbanken has paid a visit to Morpeth’s Sanderson Arcade this week as part of a fact-finding tour of their branches across the North of England.

Eight board members visited in two separate parties to meet the local Handelsbanken team who are based in offices at Sanderson Arcade. They were given an update on business at the Morpeth branch which opened at the award-winning town centre development just over a year ago.

After taking in Morpeth, the board also visited branches in Newcastle, Sunderland and Durham before heading to the South of England.

Dave Elliot, branch manager at Handelsbanken in Morpeth said: “We have expanded our team in the North East and opened the Morpeth branch fairly recently. so board members were very keen to find out about our first year. As a company we have a strong ethos of community engagement which is something members of our board were also very interested to discuss.

“We are a small branch here in Morpeth so it was nice to have the opportunity to talk to our board about the work we are doing. Everyone was extremely impressed with Sanderson Arcade and congratulated us on finding such an excellent location for our new branch in Morpeth.”

One of Sweden’s largest banks, Handelsbanken was recently rated the world’s second strongest bank by information provider Bloomberg.  It now has 111 branches across the UK offering a full range of business and personal banking services, founded on local decision making and long-term customer relationships. The Morpeth branch, based at Austin House at Sanderson Arcade, opened in July last year.

Managing Director of Dransfield Properties, the developers and parent company of Sanderson Arcade, Mark Dransfield, said: “We are delighted to have the local branch of Handelsbanken based here at Sanderson Arcade and it was a pleasure to have the opportunity to show the board our company’s flagship development here in Morpeth.”
