New £3.5 million investment launched at Morpeth’s Sanderson Arcade!
Media Advisory – for immediate release
Event: Launch of Sanderson Arcade Second Phase
Date: Wednesday April 20th 2011
Morpeth’s fantastic new shopping line up will be officially launched next week – bringing more jobs and investment into the town.
The second phase of the Sanderson Arcade development was completed earlier in the spring – and the new businesses which have taken space at the award winning shopping centre will be officially opened on Wednesday April 20th.
The work, completed on schedule by local contractors Mansell, represents a further £3.5 million investment in the town with 50 new jobs being created. It completes the retail line up in the Arcade’s impressive piazza area.
Up market maternity and baby wear specialist JoJo Maman Bebe is one of the new retailers joining the line up after choosing Morpeth over other shopping destinations to house the company’s first North East store.
Monsoon and Mountain Warehouse have also opened new stores at the centre. The final unit in this phase of works is to be occupied by an independent bar and restaurant which will open later in the summer – other new developments at the centre will be announced at next week’s launch.
The brand new stores in the Arcade’s piazza area have been built on land previously occupied by the Morpeth Comrades Club – the club moved to new purpose built first floor premises at the Arcade 12 months ago.
And the completion of the centre will be celebrated at the special launch event being held in at Sanderson Arcade on Wednesday (April 20th) – the development team will be joined by children from Goosehill Nursery as well as business and council leaders.
Mark Dransfield, Managing Director of Dransfield Properties, Ltd said: “The opening of our new stores in the piazza area marks the completion of the main building work at Sanderson Arcade so this is a really momentous day for the centre.
“We first cut the soil on the site in July 2008 and to see the centre now completed and busy and our second phase fully let is testament to Morpeth as a great shopping destination.”
The Sanderson Arcade team will also present a cheque for £30,000 to the Children’s Foundation in Newcastle – the Arcade’s chosen charity during its first year of trading. Tyne Tees presenter Phillipa Tomson who helped with the fundraising will also be taking part in the presentation.
The money raised is being used to buy a 3D sensory distraction system for children undergoing painful procedures in hospital.
