The impressive new entrance feature at the Market Cross Shopping Centre in Selby town centre will be officially opened this week with a special celebration being held on Thursday (March 10th).

Work started on the improvements to the shop fronts and the new limestone fascia at the end of January and the project’s completion will be celebrated with a ribbon cutting on Thursday March 10th organised by the owners Dransfield Properties Ltd.

The project has been supported by the local authority and Selby Heritage Partnership Scheme as well as English Heritage who have also provided some grant funding towards the £55,000 improvements.

The tired and dated main Gowthorpe entrance to the shopping centre has now been replaced with a traditional and stylish magnesium limestone fascia supplied by the same company used by Selby Abbey in their restoration projects.

Alexanders Two and Cartridge Point, who trade from the two units either side of the entrance walkway, have also been given brand new traditional hardwood shop fronts as part of the centre’s facelift. Local company Harry Jackson Shopfitting Ltd has worked on the project.

Leader of Selby District Council Cllr Mark Crane said: “I am pleased with the works completed by Dransfield Properties at Market Cross.

“This brings a fresher look to the centre and I hope to see the area continue to thrive and trust that we will see more and more people within the district coming to Selby to spend their money. I wish all the shops in Market Cross well for the coming year.”

Development Surveyor at Dransfield Properties, David Hale, said: “We are delighted with the new entrance feature; the design is contemporary but with very traditional materials and it looks much more welcoming. This is the latest in a number of improvements at Market Cross in recent months and we have already had some very positive comments about the work.”

New shop fronts have also been installed at a number of other units at the centre throughout last year. The shopping centre has also seen new tenants Lemon and Lime as well as Ladbrokes join the line up in recent months.
