Sanderson Arcade Highly Commended in RICS Awards!

 A NEW shopping centre brought forward by the Barnsley based retail property developer Dransfield Properties Ltd has been highly commended by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

The prestigious Sanderson Arcade development, in Morpeth, Northumberland, opened in November last year and was shortlisted in the RICS North East Renaissance Awards.

The winning schemes were announced at a ceremony on Friday April 23^rd at the Newcastle Civic  Centre and Sanderson Arcade was Highly Commended in the Commercial Category.

The 105,000 sq ft town centre scheme has transformed a former run down centre into a brand new shopping destination. The team from Chesterfield Architects WCEC has created an Edwardian style gallery and open piazza area with high quality architecture and traditional, bespoke shop fronts.

Housing 27 new stores the centre opened in November 2009 attracting major national retailers including Marks and Spencer, New Look, Laura Ashley and Fat Face into the market town of Morpeth. Sanderson Arcade also houses a good mix of local North East companies including The Jewellers Guild and the well known local chocolaterie, Oxleys of Morpeth.

Managing Director of Dransfield Properties, Mark Dransfield, said: “This has been an extremely rewarding project to work on and seeing the transformation of the centre is fantastic.

“It is always nice to be recognised by other professionals in the industry and the RICS awards celebrate the most inspirational initiatives in the last 12 months.

“We are very pleased therefore that the RICS have visited Sanderson Arcade alongside other extremely prestigious developments across the North East and judged it worthy of a commendation.”

As well as high quality retail units the development also houses a fitness centre and new first floor office space. Work is due to start later in the spring on the next phase of the Sanderson Arcade development which will deliver three new retail units.
