Sanderson Arcade Shortlisted for Prestigious RICS Awards

3 March 2010

Sanderson Arcade in Morpeth has been shortlisted in two categories in the prestigious RICS NE Renaissance Awards – regarded as the property industry’s “Oscars.”

The £32 million retail and office development which was opened  in November 2009 by Joanna Lumley OBE was among 79 entries in this year’s awards. It has been shortlisted in both the Commercial and the Design and Innovation categories.

RICS North East received a record number of entries for this year's awards in the North East. A whole host of innovative projects have been submitted, including a wildlife reserve, restored museums, a converted barn, several housing projects, business parks and even beach chalets.

The awards celebrate the most inspirational initiatives in the property and construction sectors. The categories are Building Conservation, Commercial, Community Benefit, Design & Innovation, Regeneration, Residential, Sustainability and Tourism & Leisure.

One short-listed entry will then go on to win the North East Project of the Year accolade - the prestigious award presented to a nominee that has excelled across all eight.

Chairman of the North East judging panel David Furniss, who is also a Director at BNP Paribas Real Estate in Newcastle, said:

"The Renaissance Awards present an opportunity for the sectors that have been hit hard as a result of the recession with the chance to showcase the great work that is underway in the North East, despite the poor market conditions.

"We were delighted to see the entries pour in and once again the tremendous variety of projects has exceeded our expectations. It is a true testament to the resilience and excellence of our region's property and construction sectors."

Mark Dransfield, Managing Director of Dransfield Properties, said: ““Everyone involved with Sanderson Arcade is absolutely delighted to hear that it has been shortlisted for two categories in the RICS NE Renaissance Awards.

“Being shortlisted is a great endorsement of the quality of the development that we have sought to deliver in Morpeth.

“There have been some really high quality schemes in the North East in the last 12 months and we are very proud that Sanderson Arcade is among them.”

Work starts on phase two of Sanderson Arcade in May, delivering further retail units in this prestigious town centre development.
