Plans Submitted for Foodstore Development at Morpeth’s Low Stanners

4 August 2009

Plans have been submitted to Northumberland County Council for an exciting new foodstore development in Morpeth close to the heart of the town.

The development is being brought forward by Dransfield Properties Ltd who have worked closely with local residents and stakeholders to bring forward a scheme on the Low Stanners site with strong links to the town centre.

The company’s design team has delivered an attractive scheme for the Low Stanners site in Morpeth for a 50,000 sq ft foodstore - it will be built over two floors with a footprint of 30,000 sq ft.

The proposed site includes a council depot which is in an ideal location for a second main food store in the town with good links to the rest of Morpeth.

As well as a new foodstore close to the town centre the development will also bring:

  • More choice for shoppers in the town
  • 298 short stay car parking spaces
  • 167 long stay underground car parking spaces
  • Strong pedestrian links to the town centre
  • An attractive landscaping scheme and footpaths

Managing Director for Dransfield Properties Ltd Mark Dransfield said: “We have consulted widely before submitting our plans and have made a number of key changes in response to our consultation.

“We are now going forward with an architecturally strong scheme which works well with the existing town centre and answers the need for greater choice in Morpeth without the need for an out of town development.

“Our work with many of the town’s stakeholders has shown there is a great deal of support for a development close to the centre, something which we believe is vital to the town’s long term success.”

The plans were submitted this week to Northumberland County Council.
