Work is officially underway on Penistone's new Fire and Ambulance Stations in Springvale!

Councillors and fire and ambulance leaders have cut the first turf on the ambitious Dransfield Properties project which marks the first phase of the £15 million town centre regeneration scheme in Penistone.

Clark Construction are building the new Fire and Ambulance Stations at the Springvale Depot on Sheffield Road in Springvale, Penistone as well as a new Council Depot which should all be completed by the summer.

The stations are currently based in the town centre, off Stottercliffe Road on part of the site which is being redeveloped under the £15 million town centre project. Relocating these facilities is a vital part of delivering the new scheme in the town.

The town centre scheme will bring a new Tesco foodstore to Penistone as well as a major redevelopment of the markets area and a new, much needed 190-space car park. An all weather bowling green is also being created as part of the development plans.

The emergency services will be based in separate buildings alongside each other which have been designed to the very latest guidelines and specifications.

Mark Dransfield Managing Director of Barnsley based Dransfield Properties said: “We are delighted to be starting this important first phase of our works in Penistone and look forward to these fantastic new facilities opening in the town."

Deputy Chief Fire Officer Steve Swarbrick said: "This development is good news for Penistone and South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue. It re-affirms our commitment to the town and local area, and will provide our staff with a new state-of-the-art base from which they can help to make Penistone and its surrounding villages safer."
