Community invited to view the £46 million plans for Stocksbridge

17 March 2008

Residents, businesses and community groups are being invited to view the revised plans for an ambitious £46 million development at Stocksbridge.

It’s the latest in a round of consultations which have been organised by Dransfield Properties and Gallaghers UK since the plans for the new development were first announced by the two companies last year.

The public consultation will take place at Stocksbridge Library on Manchester Road in the town on Saturday March 29th.

Members of the development team will be on hand to answer questions, site layouts and artists’ impressions of the proposed regeneration scheme will also be available.

The proposed mixed use scheme is being brought forward by Dransfield Properties and Gallaghers UK.  Following this latest round of consultation a planning application will be submitted for:

  •  A new 65,000 sq ft foodstore
  • 83,000 sq ft of new purpose built non food retail space
  • 25,000 sq ft of state of the art office accommodation
  • 22,500 sq ft of leisure space

The new development has been brought forward following the announcement that  Outokumpu is to relocate the company’s Annealing Plant to its factory at Meadowhall.  The plant  is off Manchester Road, near to Hunshelf Bank in Stocksbridge.

The plans have been redesigned following feed back from urban design specialists during last year’s consultation sessions. The site was also flooded in June last year and the developers have been working with the Environment Agency to include new flood defences in the scheme.

Meetings with local community groups and stakeholders are also being held before the plans are submitted to Sheffield City Council.

Andrew Malley, Retail Property Director, at Dransfield Properties, said: “The relocation of the Annealing Plant from Stocksbridge presents an opportunity to redevelop this site. We are looking to deliver a high quality mixed use development with not only a supermarket but some high quality retailers and office accommodation.

“As with all our developments we are committed to consulting widely and listening to the views of the community.”

Yorkshire based Dransfield Properties specialises in delivering urban regeneration schemes and has won four awards, including the BCSC Gold Award for the successful transformation of a former factory site in Gainsborough to a thriving retail and leisure centre.

The public consultation session will be held at Stocksbridge Library on Saturday 29th March from 9.30am to 12pm.
