Mayor of Morpeth, Councillor Milburn Douglas joined Castle Morpeth Borough Council, local dignitaries and developers to open Morpeth’s new long stay car park on Dark Lane, this week.
The 110 space park, constructed by contractors Lumsden and Carroll Construction, is part of the first phase of the Ł30 million Morpeth Town Centre regeneration scheme being brought forward by joint developers Dransfield Properties Limited and Ethel Austin Properties.
The car park will provide relief parking for the town over the busy Christmas period.
The Morpeth town centre redevelopment will deliver:-
a new shopping arcade comprising of 90,000 sq ft of retail and office space
a new transport interchange
town centre car parks
an extension to the Morrison supermarket
Peter Taylor, Director of Construction at Dransfield Properties said: “We are delighted that the car park has now been completed, and would like to thank Lumsden and Carroll for all their efforts in delivering the car park on time and with minimal disruption caused. The car park is the first part of what will be a fantastic development for the town and we are confident that the petrol filling station will be completed within programme and we looking forward to starting work on the second phase of works in the new year.”
