PREZZO PICKS PRIME SITE FOR NEW RESTAURANT

21 August 2007

Prezzo, famed for its fine Italian food, is to open a new restaurant in Gainsborough adding another national retailer to the tenant line-up in the town’s retail, leisure and commercial complex, Marshall’s Yard.

The restaurant chain, that has built its reputation on providing quality Italian food in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere at reasonable prices, has taken a 3,425 sq ft unit on a 25 year lease and will be the only large restaurant unit in the yard. It is a flagship unit for the development, situated adjacent to the entrance and overlooking The Peace Gardens.

The original Prezzo opened in the heart of London’s West End in New Oxford Street in November 2000 and quickly established itself as a leading brand of quality Italian cuisine. It now has over 100 restaurants across many parts of England. The Gainsborough venture will be its third in Lincolnshire and represents a substantial investment for the company.

The six to eight week fitting out process is scheduled to start on 5 October with the expectation of a pre-Christmas opening. The new restaurant represents a substantial investment of £600,000 for Prezzo and will create an initial 16 new job opportunities for Gainsborough.

Since its inception, the company’s primary focus has been to provide the optimum setting for informal dining and in which to celebrate special occasions. It prides itself on using the finest seasonal products available, many of which are imported directly from Italy, with a menu that includes pizza, pasta, risotto, grilled meats, fresh salads and frequently changing specials.

A joint venture between Dransfield Properties Ltd and Prospect Estates, the £39 million Marshall’s Yard mixed use development opened in April this year and is attracting thousands of shoppers into Gainsborough every week. The development acted as trigger for unprecedented levels of public and private investment in Gainsborough, a market town that suffered severe economic decline in the 1980s and 1990s.

Andrew Malley, retail and property director of Dransfield Properties Ltd, said:

“Prezzo is a name synonymous with exciting Italian cuisine and I am delighted that shoppers at Marshall’s Yard will be able share this eating experience.

“This marks another key milestone in the development of Marshall’s Yard which is providing the town with a unique centre development of shopping, leisure and office space in a format that incorporates listed buildings.

“I am confident that Prezzo will be rewarded handsomely for its new investment and that visitors to the yard will have their shopping, leisure time or working experience enhanced by a new departure in continental eating.”
