Developers raise £55,000 for charities

South Yorkshire developers Dransfield Properties have raised a staggering £55,000 for four charities after fielding a 17 strong team of cyclists in a London to Paris bike ride in June this year.

Managing Director Mark Dransfield joined forces with his brother Paul of Hull based PDR Construction, to lead a team of amateur cyclists covering 300 kilometres over three days, averaging a tiring seven hours cycling every day.

Pushing off from Tower Bridge the team rode towards the coast through Reigate, Lewes and the South Downs.  Day two took the team through the rural villages and market towns of Northern France, with the final leg being the ride through the bustling streets of Paris and along the Champs Elysees before arriving at the Eiffel Tower.

The group beat an initial fundraising target of £30,000 thanks to the generosity of colleagues and corporate donors, and the £55,000 raised has been shared equally amongst the team’s four nominated charities:  Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity, the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, Leukaemia Research and the British Heart Foundation.

David Vernon-Edwards, Director of Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity and a member of the cycling team said:  “As a participant in this event I can confirm it was a huge physical challenge and extremely tiring for everybody who took part!  These fundraising events are so important in helping charities to continue their important work, and I’m sure I can speak on behalf of all the organisations benefiting from this event to say a big thank you to Dransfield Properties and PDR Construction.”
