A gem in store for Marshall’s Yard

Local business Stanley Hunt Jewellers is to open a store at one of Lincolnshire’s most prestigious shopping developments, after signing a 15 year lease at the £39 million Marshall’s Yard development in Gainsborough.

Established over 50 years ago, the company has built up a long standing client base, which it serves from outlets in Gainsborough and Retford.

The company is planning to spend substantially on the store, creating a top of the range shopping environment for gold and diamond jewellery and giftwares from popular household names such as Lladro, Royal Doulton and Border fine arts.

Predominantly diamond and watch specialists, they also handle repairs, valuations and remodelling of old jewellery.

Proprietor Richard Hunt took over from his father Stanley Hunt who set up the business in 1952.  Richard is partnered in the business with his wife Claire and they work closely with manageress Judith Bates who has recently gained a distinction in her professional jewellers’ gemmological diploma with the National Association of Goldsmiths.  Judith has been with the company for 21 years.

The Gainsborough branch of the business will relocate to Marshall’s Yard when the development opens in spring 2007.  It will be located in the historic Britannia Building, one of several listed buildings on the site being brought back to its former glory by restoration experts – the site was previously home to the internationally renowned Marshall’s Engineering, producers of agricultural machinery and military hardware.

Richard Hunt said: “After starting work in my father’s jewellery store back in the days when Gainsborough was a thriving town, it is exciting to think that our store and our staff will be located on a development which is set to get the town back on its feet.  We are making a considerable investment in Marshall’s Yard as we know it will be a fantastic boost to the regeneration programmes underway in the town and we look forward to being part of its success.”

Marshall’s Yard’s will deliver new retail units, leisure facilities, office accommodation and public open space on a previously derelict site.  The tenant line up includes Next, M&S Simply Food, New Look, JJB, Claire’s Accessories and Costa Coffee.  West Lindsey District Council will relocate their headquarters to the development, with further office space available for small companies.  A central piazza and fountain area will sit at the heart of the site.
