New home for Mrs Robinson’s Café, Selby

17 August 2006

Mrs Robinson’s Café, in the Market Cross Shopping Centre in Selby is moving from its location in the former In Shops indoor market to the unit previously occupied by the Basics discount outlet.

Mrs Robinson’s Café, which employs five staff, has been trading in Selby for almost 20 years, with husband and wife team Brian and Lina Hines taking over in 2005.  As part of the move they have signed a 15 year lease.

Centre owners Market Cross Properties and the Hines agreed the relocation deal so the couple could remain trading while the In Shops unit is converted into a single retail unit for a new tenant.  Originally, the café was due to close while the internal building layout was remodelled, but as the Hines were keen to keep trading, Market Cross Properties made arrangements for them to move into the vacant unit.

The café will reopen in approximately three weeks under the new name of Café 21, and as it is bigger then the previous premises, Mr and Mrs Hines are looking at how they can expand the business, for example with longer opening hours.

Brian Hines, proprietor, said: “We are delighted with the arrangement as it allows us to keep trading and after signing our new lease we look forward to serving our customers in our new premises for many years to come.  I’d like to say thank you to all the customers who have wished us well in our new venture over past few weeks and to Market Cross Properties for helping us out with the relocation.”

Lindsay McLaren of Market Cross Properties added: “I am delighted we have been able to relocate the café and wish Mr and Mrs Hines all the best in their new premises.

Mrs Robinson’s Café is just one of a number of local businesses in the centre which has extended its lease.  China Palace, Alexander Cards, and Vine Accounting Services have also committed to new leases.
