Italian coffee shop Costa Coffee has signed up for the Marshalls Yard development in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, taking a 1375 sq ft restaurant unit overlooking the central piazza and fountain area.

Established in London in 1971 by the Italian Costa brothers, the chain has amassed over 500 coffee shops across the world, selling a selection of Italian coffees, hot chocolate, teas and snacks.

Contractors Tolent are on schedule to complete Marshalls Yard in time for the Spring 2007 opening which will bring a host of new retailers to the town and create up to 800 jobs.

Work begins next month on a new headquarters for West Lindsey District Council which will sit at the heart of the £39 million development.

Formerly home to the largest factory complex in Europe, the Marshalls Yard development is one of the most significant investments in Lincolnshire in recent years.  Joint developers Dransfield Properties and Prospect Estates are behind the scheme.

Over 90 per cent of the retail space has been taken, reflecting retailer confidence in the development.  The larger units have been let to Marks & Spencer, Next, New Look, JJB Health and Fitness, Halfords, Allied Carpets, Brantano and Wilkinson.  Smaller spaces have been taken by Specsavers, Greggs, Carphone Warehouse, Julian Graves and Ilkeston Co-op Travel.

Mark Dransfield, Managing Director of Dransfield Properties, said: “Costa Coffee is a great addition to the line up at Marshalls Yard.  Overlooking the fountain and piazza area, the shop will provide the perfect setting for people to take a break from their work or shopping and relax over a drink.”
