Halfords join Marshalls Yard

10 April 2006

Car parts and cycles retailer Halfords has joined the tenant line up at Marshall’s Yard, Gainsborough (Lincolnshire), taking an 8,000 sq ft unit and creating approximately 26 new jobs.

Halfords has 408 stores across the UK and the Republic of Ireland, which makes it ones of the largest non-food retailers in the country. It sells a range of auto, leisure and cycling products, including car parts, workshop tools, entertainment systems, navigation systems, cycles and cycle accessories.

The store will be located in one of the site’s many listed buildings – the retention and refurbishment of historical buildings on the former engineering works being a key feature of the development.

Marshall’s Yard will transform an 8 acre brownfield site on the edge of Gainsborough town centre into a £39 million mixed use scheme offering retail, office and leisure use.

Over 80 per cent of the retail space has already been taken -  by household names such as Marks & Spencer, JJB, Next and New Look.  West Lindsey District Council recently announced it would be relocating its headquarters to office space on the development.

Due to open in Easter 2007, Marshalls Yard will stem trade leakage from the town - estimated by analysts CACI to be more than 90 pence in the pound.  Confidence in the town has already started to grow due to the level of house building being undertaken, economic benefits from nearby Robin Hood airport and the proposed new marina

Richard Nixon, Head of Property at Halfords, said: “We are looking forward to opening on the Marshalls Yard development and have every confidence that Gainsborough will become a popular retail destination.”
