Work starts on Marshalls Yard

21 December 2005

This New Year really will ring in the changes for Gainsborough, as work starts on 3 January on the transformation of the Britannia Works into the £37 million shopping, leisure and commercial centre, Marshalls Yard.

With a 60 week construction timetable, national retailers such as New Look, JJB Health and Fitness, Allied Carpets, Specsavers and Brantano could be welcoming their first customers as early as Spring 2007, creating over 1,000 jobs, and recapturing trade back to the town.

Over the past twelve months, developers Dransfield Properties have completed demolition on the site, installed new highway works and restored buildings which will be retained as a feature in the new development.

Several major high street names have signed up to Marshalls Yard and more names will be announced in the New Year.  Interest from retailers is high, with over 70 per cent of the retail space is now taken.

Earlier plans to build residential apartments on the site have been changed, to reflect the changing housing market.

The scheme will be constructed by national contractors Tolent.

Mark Dransfield, Managing Director of Dransfield said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be starting the major construction phase of this new development, and hope that Gainsborough residents will watch the site’s progress with interest.

“In less than two years time, Gainsborough will be home to a host of leading retailers, putting it firmly on the map as a thriving shopping and visitor destination.

My thanks for to West Lindsey District Council, for their continued support of the scheme, and I look forward to continuing our partnership approach in reviving the fortunes of Gainsborough.”
