Countdown to launch for Morpeth's new boutique department store!

15 October 2020

The team behind Morpeth’s fabulous new boutique department store, Sandersons are on schedule to launch what will be their second store next week – just in time for the busy Christmas shopping period.

The fit-out team headed by the award-winning store designer John Hoyle are close to completing the transformation of the former New Look unit at Sanderson Arcade in Morpeth. In less than two months they have created a stylish new boutique department store which will be unveiled to shoppers on Thursday October 22nd.

The store has created 13 new jobs in the town and represents an investment of £500,000 from the Arcade owners Dransfield Properties Ltd, who also own the Sandersons Department Store brand.

The original Sandersons store opened in 2016 at Fox Valley in north Sheffield which is also part of the Dransfield portfolio. The store was founded by Yorkshire businesswoman Deborah Holmes, who sadly passed away in January 2019.

Deborah chose the store’s name in recognition of the company’s link with Sanderson Arcade, her husband Mark Dransfield now runs the store, as well as the new Morpeth store a third Sandersons will open in Stroud in Spring 2021.

In Morpeth British heritage brands including Barbour, Barbour International and Holland Cooper, with their full fashion and equestrian range, will sit alongside exclusive, high end Parisian labels including Ventcouvert.

The store will deliver 8,500 sq. ft. of beautifully designed retail space which will be navigated by brand rather than by gender – so for each brand the men’s and women’s wear ranges will sit alongside each other.

Other womenswear brands include Pennyblack, from the Max Mara family of labels as well as Whistles, Levi’s and Tommy Hilfiger. The new store has also sought to fill the gap in the market for high quality menswear in the area – with collections including Jacob Cohen, Gran Sasso, Tommy Hilfiger, Levi’s and Armani Exchange.

An exclusive range of prestige fragrances will also be sold, many currently not available within the region, these include Initio, Atkinsons, House of Oud, Parfum de Marley and Chanel.

Sandersons Managing Director Mark Dransfield and his buying team have sourced products from across the UK and Europe which have been carefully handpicked to create a truly unique shopping experience.

The new Sandersons team have also had customer service and product training to ensure they can deliver the award-winning Sandersons experience for which the store won Best New Retailer at the 2019 Drapers Awards.

Mark said: “It has been a race against time to create our new Sandersons store in time for the Christmas shopping period, but it is really taking shape now and with a few final, finishing touches it is going to look amazing for our launch next week.

“We have recruited a great team who have really taken the Sandersons ethos on board and we can’t wait to unveil our new store and welcome the first shoppers.”

With more people currently working from home, shopping patterns have dramatically changed in recent months and market towns like Morpeth are currently seeing a surge in shoppers and performing well.

The new store will open at Sanderson Arcade on Thursday October 22nd with all covid-secure measures in place – including temperature checks, to ensure customers feel safe when they visit.
