Artisan Butcher opens at Stroud's New Indoor Market

6 October 2020

Well-known local butcher and delicatessen Waghornes is the latest artisan trader to open for trade at Stroud’s new indoor market at the Five Valleys shopping centre.

The family butcher has a history which dates back to the 1850s and a reputation for being passionate about the provenance of the meat they sell.

Waghornes is owned by Nigel Kavanagh and Nic Veale and supplies free range, farm reared meats and game.  Nic and Nigel’s famous farm to table philosophy has been rewarded with two Cotswold Life Food and Drink Awards one in 2018 and again in 2019.

The new Waghornes store at Five Valleys opened on Tuesday October 6th and will be managed alongside the busy Prestbury shop.

A look back into the Waghornes history books showed that the company had a shop on the High Street in the 1800s – the team at now delighted to be bringing the name back to the town.

Waghornes new Five Valleys store can be found next to the Artisan Baker which opened last month and the fishmongers unit which will open later in October. Stroud delicatessen Armadeli has also just announced the company is relocating to the market which has been styled on London’s famous Borough Market.

Nic said: “We are really impressed with what is happening at Five Valleys, the centre is looking fantastic and we are just delighted to be part of this great regeneration of the town, alongside so many other great local traders.”

The striking new Waghornes unit has been fitted out with a traditional butchery theme with a modern feel and also feature a dry age cabinet.

Centre manager at Five Valleys Dionne Moore said: “We are really proud to welcome another great local company to Five Valleys. We have set out from the outset to create a really unique foodie line up here and we are certainly achieving that. The feedback from our customers is fantastic.”

Other traders at the Five Valleys Market include Falafel Mama, Brody’s Take Out, Pieminister, Thai 2 Go and Non Solo Pasta.
