Shoppers return to Fox Valley as more stores re-open

22 June 2020

The team at north Sheffield’s award-winning Fox Valley shopping centre welcomed thousands of shoppers back this week as restrictions on non-essential stores were lifted across the UK.

Key essential stores have remained open throughout the lock-down including Boots, Aldi, Home Bargains and John Crawshaw Butchers but this week has seen a phased return to even more of the centre’s popular stores, with most reporting stronger sales than anticipated as shoppers returned.

On Monday (June 15th) Sports Direct, Edinburgh Woollen Mills and Seasalt reopened as well as EE and Vape HQ. JoJo Mamab Bebe reopened on Wednesday, with Sandersons Department Store, Regatta and Next opening their doors later in the week.

Sports Direct have reported their best week’s trade since opening at the centre in Spring 2017 and other stores reopening for trade this week have also reported better than expected footfall and sales.

All stores have put strict safety and social distancing measures in place and limited the number of shoppers allowed in their store. This, along with a well-planned queuing system and phased openings throughout the week ensured a smooth return to trading.

Café’s, restaurants and hair and beauty salons are now awaiting further guidance from the Government before reopening.

Operations Director at Fox Valley Medi Parry Williams said: “We have worked really closely with all our returning businesses to ensure a smooth return to trading this week and the response from our shoppers has been really great.

“We had long queues for Sports Direct on Monday which were well managed and it has certainly helped that the stores have phased their openings throughout the week.

“Our retailers have had a good return to business, with Fox Valley being an outdoor centre with lots of space and wide walkways, it certainly helps customers to feel safe and confident to shop with us.”

MP for Penistone and Stocksbridge Miriam Cates visited the centre on Friday (June 19) to meet some of the store teams who have returned this week.

She said: “It is really lovely to see many more of the stores at Fox Valley returning to trading this week and to chat to the staff about the safety measures they have put in place so they and their customers can feel safe.

“I’d also like to pay tribute to all those members of staff who have worked in the essential stores throughout the last three months and thank them for keeping the shelves stocked and providing such an important service to our community.”
