DPL team assist tenants to access funding lifeline during coronavirus crisis

The team at the South Yorkshire property company Dransfield Properties Ltd have helped dozens of the tenants across their estate to access a total of £1.6m in grant aid from the Government’s Small Business Grant Fund over the last month.

Dransfield Properties owns and manages award-winning, mixed-use centres across the UK with more than 630,000 sq. ft. of retail, office and leisure space and over 160 different tenants across the portfolio.

Since the lockdown was announced on March 24th the company’s Estates Surveyor Alisdair Gillespie has worked tirelessly on assisting smaller, family run businesses to access the vital Government funding which has been distributed through local authorities.

Many of Dransfield Properties’ tenants are small independent companies ranging from restaurants, jewellers, cafés and beauticians to physiotherapists, graphic design, marketing and web companies.

Assisting just over 100 firms with their applications for grants of either £10,000 or £25,000 has been vital in getting access to the funding quickly and efficiently.

The company has worked with councils including Sheffield City Council, West Lindsey District Council, Manchester City Council, Northumberland County Council and Selby District Council as well as the local authority in Stroud where Dransfield Properties is working on the redevelopment of the Five Valleys centre.

Managing Director, Mark Dransfield, said: “We know that it is the relationships with our tenants and with our banking partners that will get us through this current crisis.

“These small businesses had to close overnight, they don’t have the support of a larger organisation to help them navigate the grant system and in many cases it’s a very overwhelming situation for them.

“Alisdair hit the floor running in liaising with the tenants and the local authorities as well as lobbying our local MP’s and almost all the grant money has now been received.  This has enabled these small businesses to pay their rent and service charge and other commitments to ensure they have viable businesses when we emerge from this situation.”

The company has received great feedback from grateful tenants with one Gainsborough marketing company thanking the DPL team for its exemplary work in assisting with grant funding.
