East Ham development starts to take shape

10 February 2020

Construction work is progressing well on DPL’s first major London scheme – the transformation of the former East Ham Market Hall in the Borough of Newham.

Dransfield Properties Ltd is working with the Market Hall owners Land Management as well as Barratt London to transform the 1.9 acre site, creating a brand new residential and retail development called New Market Place.

Work started on site in May last year and once completed the new development will deliver 277 new one, two and three bedroomed homes, as well as 21,500 sq. ft. of new and refurbished retail space, The development is also creating new public spaces, as well as landscaped courtyards and private roof gardens for residents.

The first residential units are now being released for sale and will be ready for occupation early next year – the development is just seven minutes from East Ham Underground station.

Once the residential development has been completed work will then start on the new, ground floor retail mall.

Managing Director of Dransfield Properties, Mark Dransfield, said: “This our first major project in the capital and it really is fantastic to see those plans coming to fruition now. The scheme is going to transform this part of East Ham town centre and we’re looking forward to delivering the new retail development as part of the wider town centre project.”

The development’s striking glazed unit has now been completed and will be used as a sales office for the residential units in the coming months before being let to a potential café or restaurant operator.

Details of the residential units available can be viewed here: https://www.barratthomes.co.uk/new-homes/greater-london/h760601-new-market-place/

Barratt London and East Ham Regeneration have worked together with Newham Council, the GLA and residents throughout the design process. The scheme’s anticipated completion is late 2021.
