The team at east Manchester’s Lime Square shopping centre are helping a group of young dancers realise their dream of taking part in the World Hip Hop Dance Championships in America later this year.

The Urbanized Dance Academy, based at Beulah Hall in Openshaw have been selected to compete in the prestigious championships in Florida in April.

The popular dance group are regular performers at Lime Square events throughout the year and the shopping centre’s owners Dransfield Properties Ltd have donated £1,500 to help the group realise their dream of showcasing their talents at the championships after they were selected to compete.

The senior team at UDA (Black) are now busy perfecting their 2minutes 20 seconds routine in the hope of impressing the judges in the 2020 championships.

A total of 13 dancers will be taking part in the competition and as well as practicing their steps they’re busy fundraising to help support some of the travel costs and to fund dance outfits for the trip.

UDA Head Coach, Sereena Hunter, said: “The senior girls have worked really hard for the last 4 years trying to get a USASF Hip Hop Worlds Bid, always missing out by a just a few points but this made them more determined each year to achieve what a lot of people saw as impossible.

“I think this is amazing for a group of girls from Openshaw to get this far and to now have the opportunity to compete in 2020 - we’re so excited for them.

“Families are funding the individual travel costs but there is so much more involved in taking part in an event like this and were holding raffles and car boot sales and lots of other fundraisers to ensure they can take part.”

The senior girls are all aged between 13-18 and meet regularly to practice, they’re now preparing for the big event which takes place in Disney World in Florida in April.

Amanda Holmes, from Dransfield Properties, said: “We are delighted to support the UDA senior team dancers and help towards making sure they can take part in the event in April, it’s a great achievement for them all and they’ll be going with the very best wishes of all the team from Lime Square and Dransfield Properties.”

The dancers will also be fundraising on site at Lime Square in the coming weeks.
