Market Cross team prepare for festive celebrations with the Christmas light switch on event!

The team at Market Cross are busy preparing for their annual Christmas Lights Switch On event which is due to take place this year on Friday 22nd November from 4pm until 6:30pm. 

There will also be a jam-packed line up of entertainment from 4pm until 6:15pm with the big switch on happening at 5:30pm. 

From 4pm – 4:45pm Georgie Harrison will be performing followed by Lizy and The Crescendos who will be on the stage from 4:45pm to 5:30pm. Carol with the Hemingbirds will also be performing after the switch on at 5:45pm – 6:15pm. 

Young visitors will be treated to free face painting as well as a visit from characters Elsa and Olaf from the Disney movie Frozen. 

The lights will officially be switched on by Olaf and Elsa as well as the Market Cross competition winner. 

Festive stilt walkers will also be making an appearance at the event handing out mince pies to shoppers. 

Stores on the centre will also be partaking in late night Christmas shopping which involves staying open until 8pm – these include The Hub, Costa and various independent stores. 

Alison Shipperbottom from the Market Cross management team said: “We are really looking forward to our Christmas Lights Switch On event here in Selby – we have a lovely evening organised to get Christmas started.”

A pilgrim illumination will also be taking place at the Selby Abbey on Friday 22nd November, Saturday 23rd November and Sunday 24th November from 6pm – 9pm.
