12:30pm, Tuesday 12th November
award-winning Sanderson Arcade celebrates its 10th anniversary next week –
exactly a decade to the day that Joanna Lumley OBE launched the town centre
The centre was
launched on 12th November 2019 and ten years later retailers, stakeholders
and guests will come together with the centre’s development team and owners,
Dransfield Properties, to mark the special milestones.
The redevelopment of
the Arcade transformed the former run-down shopping Arcade and has made
Morpeth one of the north east’s leading retail destinations.
The centre remains
fully let and many of the original retailers are still a key part of the town
centre shopping centre, including M&S, Fat Face, Laura Ashley, O2, Clarks
and New Look – as well as a host of successful independent companies.
The 10th birthday
will be celebrated with a special reception at Barluga at Sanderson Arcade
and guests will be gathering to unveil a special piece of art at the centre
ahead of the event on Tuesday 12th November.
The development has
been transformational in the town and been followed by further major
investments, including a new Morrisons store in 2013 and the redevelopment of
the former Morrisons in 2016.
Managing Director of
Dransfield Properties, Mark Dransfield, said: “We always had a clear vision
in terms of the architecture and the kind of retailer we wanted to attract at
the Arcade and I feel we have certainly done that.
particularly rewarding to see that so many of those businesses who were with
us on the opening day are still here, continuing to do well and investing in
“Some of them,
particularly the independent businesses, really took a leap of faith and it’s
great to see companies like The Jewellers Guild and Central Bean continuing
to be such a bit part of the Arcade and to have them celebrating our 10th
Anniversary with us next week.”
