The Stocksbridge schoolgirl who won a competition to find a name for the town’s Fox Valley development is taking her first career steps at one of the businesses based at the award-winning centre.

Katie Holmes was a 12-year-old pupil at Stocksbridge High School when she picked out the name Fox Valley – she cut the soil on the first phase of the development in 2014 and was invited back to the official opening with Joanna Lumley in 2016.

She chose the name Fox Valley to reflect the industrial heritage of the site which was once part of the vast Samuel Fox steelworks

Now 18 years old Katie has just completed a business course at Barnsley College and this month started working at Live and Learn Consultancy Ltd.

The national training provider, which delivers training courses to help employees or teams reach their full potential, is based at Dransfield House at Fox Valley.

Katie has been taken on as a Digital Marketing Apprentice and will also spend one day a week at Sheffield College as part of the level 3 apprenticeship she’s embarking on.

Katie said: “I’m really excited to be starting my career here at Fox Valley and with Live and Learn Consultancy Ltd.
“It’s so lovely to have the opportunity to start my career here as a digital apprentice having been involved with Fox Valley throughout my school years after winning the competition to find a name for the centre.”

The company’s new apprentice joins a 12 strong team at Live and Learn Consultancy Ltd who work with clients from across the UK on a wide range of training packages.

Learning and Development Director, Lisa Kitchen, said: “We are delighted that Katie has joined the team here at Live and Learn, she is going to be a big part of some of the exciting new initiatives we have coming up to engage with our learners.

“We act as a training broker for apprentices but Katie is the first apprentice we have actually taken on so we are incredibly proud to be able to give her this opportunity. It’s fantastic that she can start her career in the community and the centre where she has such great links and memories.”
