Full on Festive Fun at Market Cross this Christmas.

6 December 2018

Market Cross officially switched on their Christmas lights with the rest of Selby last Saturday and the centre is now in full festive swing with a full programme of events throughout December.

The centre’s lights were switched on by 12 year old Sapphire Loring who was nominated for her involvement in the Selby Abbey poppy initiative which saw a stunning waterfall of knitted poppies grace the Abbey recently as well as helping with the organisation of the poppy appeal in Selby.

After switching on the lights with Santa, Sapphire received a Christmas hamper and board game for the family to enjoy on Christmas Day.

This Saturday the centre will host a giant snow globe for families to have their photos taken within a beautiful winter wonderland. The snow globe will be positioned outside The Hub from 9am until 3pm.

On Saturday the 15th December a special Harry Potter themed event will be held from 11am until 2pm within Market Cross. As part of the free event children can have their face painted, design their own balloon model and make a Harry Potter wand to take home. Special themed Harry Potter activities will also be held in Inner Vision Opticians and don’t forget there’s a Harry Potter themed escape room at Escapologist, both found on New Lane.

To round off the month’s programme of events the centre will welcome back the York Railway Institute Brass Band from 11:30am until 1:30pm performing all of your favourite Christmas carols to get shoppers into the festive spirit.

The Meat Master have some fabulous Christmas hamper deals and Luv Fresh fruit & Veg are selling hot chestnuts and mulled wine every Saturday throughout December to add to the festive feel.

Alison Shipperbottom from the Centre Management team at Market Cross said: “We love Christmas at Market Cross and now the lights are on we want to do everything possible to get people into the festive spirit whilst they shop for their loved ones.

"Many stores at Market Cross are still stocking Christmas wreaths, trees and decorations as well as plenty of gift ideas and all you need for the perfect Christmas dinner- It would be fantastic this Christmas if everyone could shop local and support their local town.”
