Fox Valley on the countdown to hosting the Tour de Yorkshire finish

10 April 2017

The team at north Sheffield’s Fox Valley shopping centre are on the countdown to hosting the finish of Yorkshire’s biggest cycle race later this month.

The three day Tour de Yorkshire race will be watched by millions of spectators along the route and the area is preparing to put on a fantastic show for the last day on Sunday April 30th.

Towns and villages are being decorated in a sea of blue and yellow bikes and bunting with lots of entertainment and land art planned along the route.

The flag which will mark out the finish point has been delivered to Fox Valley ahead of the big event and this week has also seen the Trophy Tour visit schools and businesses in north Sheffield.

The trophies which will be awarded to the winners of the men’s and women’s race visited the area yesterday (Friday 7th April), stopping off at schools, leisure centres and some of the stores and the Friday market at Fox Valley.

The trophies have been designed and made by hand at world leading trophy makers Thomas Fattorini Ltd – the Y is made of brass and copper based alloy, which has been polished and gold plated.

The decisive stage of this year’s race –titled The Yorkshire Terrier due to its punishing climbs – will finish at Fox Valley on the afternoon of Sunday April 30th and will include the “Stocksbridge Sprint” on Manchester Road.

The final sprint points are up for grabs at around 16:47pm before the weary riders tackle a gruelling 22km concluding loop featuring no less than four categorised climbs.

The Cote de Deepcar is the first climb at 6:52pm and the Cotes de Wigtwizzle (16:58pm) and Ewden Height (17:01) come one after the other before one last drag up the Cote de Midhopestones at 17:07pm.  The winner of the 2017 Tour de Yorkshire is expected to cross the finish line in Fox Valley at 17:15pm.

Fox Valley is a new town centre development which opened in June 2016 and is home to a host of national and independent retailers.

The centre was announced as the finish line for the third edition of the Tour de Yorkshire in December last year and Dransfield Properties, the company which owns and manages Fox Valley, is working with local groups and stakeholders to giving a big South Yorkshire welcome to the event.

Managing Director of Dransfield Properties, Mark Dransfield, said: “We really are in the build up to the event now and it’s great to see some of the towns and villages in the area getting ready and making a real effort to welcome the ride to our part of South Yorkshire.

“This is going to put Stocksbridge and Fox Valley on the map and we’re hoping businesses and residents in the area will give the race a huge welcome and make this the best Tour de Yorkshire finish the county has seen.”
