Charity cyclists set their sights on Copenhagen as day three gets underway

14 September 2016

The team of cyclists fielded by south Yorkshire property company Dransfield Properties have started the third day of their tough five day ride from Berlin to Copenhagen this morning.

The team of 13 riders are taking part in the tenth leg of an annual charity ride and are covering 400 miles over five days cycling across northern Germany and into Denmark in their bid to raise £50,000 for charity.

The team started the challenge on Monday September 12th in Berlin where last year’s ride finished. They finished the first day’s ride in the German town of Neuruppin after covering sixty miles and yesterday covered a leg aching 100 miles from Neuruppin to Schwerin.

Today the team are heading for Kellhausen in another tough 60 mile leg before crossing the border into Denmark tomorrow lunchtime ready for the last haul into Copenhagen by Friday night.

The annual ride was founded by brothers Mark and Paul Dransfield - their company's PDR Construction and Dransfield Properties field a team of riders every year.

Since starting their challenge in 2007 they’ve covered more than 3,000 miles.

The team is joined by the pro-cyclist and World Championship Silver Medallist, Tony Gibb who also heads up the new Full Gas Bike store at Fox Valley in north Sheffield - the centre is owned and managed by Dransfield Properties and was opened in June this year by Joanna Lumley OBE.

The Full Gas team car is on hand throughout the challenge to support the riders and fix punctures along the route as they pedal across northern Germany and into Denmark.

The South Yorkshire riders are joined by team members from Lincolnshire, Hull, Merseyside and London.

The riders are supporting Action Against Cancer, Bloodwise and The Dransfield Foundation – a Trust established to help support local causes and community projects and initiatives. The team is also supporting CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young). This year's fundraising total is currently running at nearly £26,000.

Managing Director of Dransfield Properties, Mark Dransfield, said: “We thought that this time of year would be much colder in northern Germany but we’ve actually had temperatures of getting on for 30 degrees which we really didn’t expect so that’s definitely added to the challenge of the miles we’re covering to get to Copenhagen on Friday.

“We’d like to thank everyone who has sponsored us so far – it means a great deal to us and is definitely keeping us going.”
