Foundation funds room makeover at Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice

26 June 2015

South Yorkshire’s Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice has been given a £7,500 donation by the Dransfield Foundation to completely refurbish and redecorate one of the centre’s eight bedrooms.

Based in North Anston, Bluebell Wood offers care and support to children with complex medical needs and life-shortening illnesses, both in their own homes and at the hospice.

The hospice opened seven years ago and the bedrooms where its young patients stay are all now in need of refurbishment.  The donation from the Dransfield Foundation will pay for one of the eight bedrooms to be completely refurbished and redecorated.

The Dransfield Foundation was set up in April 2014 by the Barnsley based retail property specialists Dransfield Properties.  Funds are partly raised by the company’s annual charity bike ride which was founded in 2007 – this year the cycle team will cover 430 miles from Munich to Berlin in September.

Rachael Dawes Corporate Fundraiser at Bluebell Wood said: “We’re really grateful for this generous donation from The Dransfield Foundation. Being able to update and refurbish our rooms will make a huge positive difference to our children and families.

"We are here to make every moment count and to provide a home from home environment filled with love and laughter. We are grateful for the support of companies such as Dransfield Properties and for the tremendous community support we receive; it costs more than £3m a year to run our hospice, so every penny raised really does count.”

Director at Dransfield Properties and Foundation Trustee Deborah Holmes said: “We are delighted through our Foundation to be able to support such a fantastic facility and fund one of the bedrooms being refurbished.  Bluebell Wood really is a very special place with an amazing team of people.”

More than 200 children from across South Yorkshire are supported by Bluebell Wood which costs £3 million every year to keep running. Counselling support is also offered to current and bereaved parents.
