New retail development for Hull nears completion

3 June 2015

Work on the new retail development taking shape on east Hull’s Holderness Road will be completed over the next few weeks.

The main contractors Geo Houlton and Sons will have the brickwork on the development completed next week and the roof works on the £5 million project are also progressing well. The development is being brought forward by the Barnsley based retail specialists Dransfield Properties Ltd.

Work is also underway on the new car park at the development as well as the kerbing and internal flooring works on the new retail units.

The new development is transforming a 1.8 acre site at the junction of Holderness Road and Mount Pleasant in the city.

The main construction work should be completed at the end of this month ready for the companies opening new stores to start their internal fit out works. The development is anchored by a 25,000 sq. ft. B&M Store with a garden centre, there will also be a new Subway and The Hull Animal Welfare Trust is taking a unit.

Two empty shops fronting Holderness Road are being refurbished and brought back into use as part of the overall project and the scheme will create around 50 new jobs in the area.

As well as bringing an attractive new retail development to this part of Holderness Road the scheme includes a new district centre car park with around 90 parking spaces.

Head of Communications at Dransfield Properties Amanda Holmes said: “It’s great to see the Holderness Road development really taking shape and nearing completion now.  We’ll be making further announcements about the other companies who are taking space at the centre over the next couple of weeks.”
