Work starts on new retail scheme for east Hull

10 November 2014

Work gets started on Monday (November 17th) on the long –awaited new retail development in east Hull which will transform a key site in this part of the city and create around 50 new jobs.

The new £5 million development is on the corner of Mount Pleasant and Holderness Road and neighbours The Mount Retail Park which was opened in 2003 by Barnsley based Dransfield Properties – the same company which is delivering the new scheme.

The plans were unanimously approved by Hull City Council in April this year and the local firm Geo Houlton and Sons Ltd start work on site on Monday November 17th.

A soil cutting ceremony is planned in December and it’s hoped the main building work on the project will be completed by June 2015.

The scheme will be anchored by a 25,000 sq. ft. B&M store with garden centre, four further new  retail units with also be created. Two empty shops fronting Holderness Road will also be refurbished and brought back into use as part of the overall project.

As well as bringing an attractive new development to this part of Holderness Road the scheme will also include a new district centre car park with around 90 parking spaces.

The new investment in the area has been welcomed by the MP for Kingston Upon Hull East, Karl Turner as well as local councillors and other businesses in this part of the city.

Head of Communications at Dransfield Properties, Amanda Holmes, said: “We are delighted to be able move forward with our development on Holderness Rd, there is a great deal of support and enthusiasm in the area to see this site developed and we are pleased to be announcing a start date this side of Christmas.

"We’d like to thank everyone for their support and look forward to work getting started on site and the new development opening next summer.”
