Iceland gets a warm welcome in Tunstall as new store opens

13 March 2014

Hundreds of shoppers turned out for the opening of the brand new Iceland store at Alexandra Park in Tunstall this week.

The company opened its doors at 9am on the dot on Tuesday March 11th to a crowd of waiting shoppers – all keen to be the first to pick up a bargain.

Iceland is the first store in this final phase of the development to open for business and has taken a  6,135 sq. ft. unit at the centre which enjoyed a brisk day’s trading during the first day.

Iceland has taken a 15 year lease on the new unit at Alexandra Park and the new store has created 20 new jobs in the area – the company was recently ranked as Britain’s Best Big Company to Work For in the 2014 Sunday Times awards, reclaiming the title which was first won in 2012.

The five new retail units were completed earlier this year – sitting alongside the Boots Pharmacy and Primary Care Centre which opened in September 2011.

Iceland’s opening is followed on Saturday (March 15th) by Card Factory, and Home Bargains who will open the company’s brand new Alexandra Park store towards the end of April. Two further units are currently being marketed.

The development is owned and managed by Barnsley based Dransfield Properties Ltd.

Retail Property Director at Dransfield Properties, Andrew Malley, said: “We are delighted that work is now completed on this final phase at Alexandra Park and our new tenants are opening for business.

"We are confident that this is a great location for Iceland and we’re really pleased to be welcoming the company to the centre –  the new store looks great and it was lovely to see such a fantastic turn out for the opening.”
