New Entrance Feature Unveiled at Selby's Market Cross

11 March 2011

The striking new entrance feature at Selby's Market Cross Shopping Centre has been unveiled to the town's shoppers.

A special ribbon cutting ceremony was held at the centre to celebrate the completion of the work which started earlier this year and includes brand new shop fronts and an impressive magnesium limestone facade at the Gowthorpe entrance to Market Cross.

Selby District Council  Leader Cllr Mark Crane praised the new look entrance and welcomed the investment in the town centre - the work has been designed to fit with the recent Gowthorpe improvements.

Local company Harry Jackson Shopfitting completed the work using the same stone supplier used in the Selby Abbey restoration programme.

Dransfield Properties, the owners of Market Cross, started a programme of improvements last year introducing traditional hard wood shop fronts. The centre has 23 retail units and an announcement is expected in the next few weeks about the company due to take the only available shop unit at Market Cross.

Development Surveyor at Dransfield Properties, David Hale, said: "The new entrance feature looks fantastic and really lifts the main entrance to Market Cross. We are delighted with this latest phase in our investment plans and we would like to thank the Selby Heritage Partnership and English Heritage for working with us on the project."

Leader of Selby District Council Cllr Mark Crane said: “This brings a fresher look to the centre and I hope to see the area continue to thrive and trust that we will see more and more people within the district coming to Selby to spend their money. I wish all the shops in Market Cross well for the coming year.”
