Home Bargains brings crowds to Market Cross

21 November 2006

Home Bargains opened in Selby’s Market Cross Shopping Centre this weekend, attracting hundreds of shoppers to the centre.

The crowds turned out in force to check out the new store, which is located in the former In Shops market.  The run down In Shops has been converted into a single 7,900 sq ft unit and fully refurbished to provide an attractive and modern shopping environment.  30 local jobs have been created as a result of the store opening.

The store conversion is the latest in a line of improvements to the centre over the past 12 months.  CCTV has been introduced, new seating and planting areas have been installed and cleaning and maintenance is now carried out on a daily basis.  As a result, vacancy levels are at an all time low – just one unit is unlet, following the relocation of Mrs Robinson’s Café to Café 21 within the centre.

Joint owners of Market Cross, Dransfield Properties, showcased the centre to some of the country’s leading  retailers at the British Council of Shopping Centres exhibition held earlier this month.  As a result, a number of retailers are lined up to take this one remaining unit, plus the new unit which will be created when the Argos store is converted into a customer service centre for Selby District Council and an additional retail unit – as approved by committee last week.

Lindsay McLaren, PR and Marketing Manager for Market Cross Ltd, said: “Home Bargains is a very popular shop, and because of the rapidly changing product range, shoppers make repeated vists which will increase footfall throughout the centre.  Upgrading the In Shops area was always a key priority for us and we are delighted that this area of Market Cross is now home to one of the region’s most popular shopping outlets.”
