Home Bargains is to open a 7,900 sq ft store  in Market Cross, in the former In Shops indoor market which is currently being converted into a single shop unit.

Home Bargains has over 150 stores across the north of England selling a  wide range of products – including health and beauty, toys and games, food and drink, and household products.

The refurbishment works are due to be completed by October.  Home Bargains will complete the internal layout and the store will be ready to open before Christmas, creating 30 local jobs.

The In Shops market had suffered from years of underinvestment by the previous leaseholders, and had become an unpleasant shopping and working environment.  Its run down appearance affected the Market Cross centre as a whole, and its conversion into a single unit is the latest in a series of improvements to the centre over the past 12 months.

The shop unit recently vacated by Mrs Robinson's Cafe, adjacent to the In Shops market is being converted into a new retail unit.

Lindsay McLaren, of Market Cross Properties, said:  “The state of the old In Shops market really dragged the centre down and its conversion to a modern single retail unit will be a vast improvement.

“Home Bargains will be a great addition to Market Cross.  With a regularly changing product range, customers make repeated visits to the store, which will increase footfall throughout the whole centre.”

A spokesperson for Home Bargains added: "Selby is a key location for our roll out programme and we are looking forward to trading out of Market Cross."
