Local hairstylist Claire Whaley is taking over the running of a hairdressing salon in Market Cross Shopping Centre, renaming it Claire’s Kwik Cuts.

The salon was formerly known as Bald Rick’s and Claire worked there for four years.  When the present owner opted to end the lease, Claire decided the time was right to start up her own business and stepped in to take over and lease the unit from centre owners Dransfield Properties.

During her time at Bald Ricks she has built up a loyal customer base and is looking forward to continuing to serve her existing customers as well as attracting new ones.

Claire said: “It’s a little bit daunting starting up on my own, but when the previous owner decided not to carry on with the business, it was too good an opportunity to miss.  I’ve worked in Market Cross for four years now, and look forward to being here for many years to come.

Market Cross is fully let for the first time in many years, with tenants secured for the one remaining empty unit, and the refurbishment programme is well underway.  The latest improvement is the addition of CCTV which has already provied its worth when the system enabled the police to identify vandals on its second night of use.
