Plans submitted to deliver £50 million mixed-use scheme for South Yorkshire

10 May 2017

Comprehensive plans to deliver a new £50 million retail, leisure and office scheme for Waverley in Rotherham, creating 700 new jobs, have now been submitted to Rotherham Council by Waverley Square Limited – the joint venture between Harworth Group plc and Dransfield Properties Ltd.

The new development is a key ingredient in the strategic regeneration of the 740 acre Waverley site – just two minutes from Junction 33 of the M1 - and will create the link between the internationally renowned Advanced Manufacturing Park and its growing residential area, where 650 homes have been built and occupied over the past four years.

Dransfield Properties Ltd and Harworth Group Plc announced the joint venture agreement to deliver the development last year.  They are working with the South Yorkshire architects Dixon Dawson on a stunning design which will bring new community facilities as well as restaurants and retail space to this growing catchment.
The new development includes:

• A transport interchange as well as a medical and community facility
• A 20,774 sq. ft. foodstore
• A further 88,429 sq. ft. of retail space
• High spec office space covering 38,285 sq. ft.
• Restaurants, coffee shops and a gym
• A car park with 484 customer spaces as well as a separate staff car park.

Attractive roof top walkway and gardens have been designed into the development as well as landscaped piazza areas with multi jet fountains, and a “town square” where Farmers’ Markets can be hosted.

Owen Michaelson, Chief Executive of Harworth Group plc, said “This is a key development for Rotherham and for Sheffield City Region in that it will create the sort of high-quality local facilities that both businesses at the AMP and local residents expect.  The plans have been carefully designed following public input and we look forward to Rotherham Council carefully examining the plans over the summer prior to a decision being made.”

Mark Dransfield, Managing Director of Dransfield Properties, said: “We are delighted that our application for Waverley has now been submitted to Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council.”
“We have been refining the design following our public consultation session last October when the plans were extremely well received by the community. The whole team has been keen from the outset to deliver a high quality development in terms of both the architecture and materials which will create a real sense of place for this world class location.

“With the combined experience and knowledge of our two companies we are confident we will deliver an excellent scheme for Waverley to serve this growing community.”

The development team are seeking grant funding to deliver the high standard of architecture that the scheme will deliver.

This is the latest in a number of similar high-profile developments for Dransfield Properties, which just last year launched the company’s flagship Fox Valley development in north Sheffield on a former steelworks site.  The company has also won a number high profile industry awards including the BCSC Gold Award for Marshall’s Yard – a sympathetic redevelopment of a former industrial site in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire.
